Kelly Wisness: Hi, this is Kelly Wisness. Welcome back to the award-winning Hospital Finance Podcast. We’re pleased to welcome back Christina Brown, BESLER’s Director of Reimbursement Services. In this episode, Christina will provide us with a glimpse into BESLER’s 2024 Reimbursement Symposium that we’re presenting live on Wednesday, August 21, starting at Noon Eastern Time for our Easy Work Papers customers, and then at 1 PM Eastern Time for everyone else. Welcome back and thank you for joining us, Christina.
Christina Brown: Thanks, Kelly, for having me.
Kelly: Well, let’s go ahead and jump in. So, this is our fifth year presenting a virtual event like this, the second as the rebranded Reimbursement Symposium. I know a lot of reimbursement professionals look forward to this webinar as it provides valuable insights, CPE credits, and a look into the future of what we have to offer. So would you mind sharing a little bit about the Reimbursement Symposium and how it’s different from our other webinars?
Christina: Absolutely. For one, it’s much longer at around four hours, where you’ll have the opportunity to actually earn three CPE credits. Also, as you may or may not be aware, this annual meeting actually started in 2020, as you mentioned, and as a way for us to communicate with our Easy Work Papers customers to share some best practices as well as some new enhancements to the software. And over the last couple of years, we have evolved this offering to include other valuable reimbursement topics similar to what you would see from our other webinars. But an exciting addition from over the past couple of years is a look ahead into the future of reimbursement as we share our ongoing updates of the development of our new reimbursement platform BESLER OMNIA.
Kelly: Wow, sounds like a lot of content’s going to be covered. Can you share what the agenda topics will be for this year’s Reimbursement Symposium?
Christina: Sure thing. Yes, I’d be happy to do that. This all started as an Easy Work Papers user group. We will continue with that tradition and begin with the first hour dedicated to our Easy Work Papers customers by covering a refresher of tips and tricks for utilizing the many functions of Easy Work Papers. I will also touch on a couple of recent updates related to enhanced security, as well as a visual refresh. Next up will be Andrew, who will talk about the impact of Worksheet S-2 on the Medicare Cost Report. This, we feel is a very important topic as there are so many things on Worksheet S-2 that impact significant areas on the cost report that maybe not everyone is abundantly familiar with. Then Cody will be presenting on what you need to know about the new data elements in exhibits 2A, 3A, 3B, and 3C. And so, if you’re not already familiar, those are some very important exhibits that must now be filed with Cody’s reports related to Medicare bad debt, DSH and S-10. There has been a significant amount of discussion related to these exhibits and how to ensure everything is properly captured and the desire to mitigate audit risks. So, Cody will be sharing some very valuable insights on those. And lastly, Chris and I will be sharing some exciting progress that has been made with our new reimbursement platform, BESLER OMNIA.
Kelly: Wow, I’m excited for all of that. I know you’re going to go in depth into a lot of those topics as well. Can you give us a sneak peek of what you’ll be addressing in the first session for Easy Work Papers? Will that session be available for people who aren’t Easy Work Papers customers? They want to get an idea of what the software does.
Christina: That’s a great question, Kelly. This year there is a change as our entire event will be available to all attendees. So yes, even if you aren’t an Easy Work Papers user, you can still log in for that first session to check it out and to get an Easy CPE credit. We all know that those are important to have. And as I mentioned, this session will cover tips and tricks for utilizing the many functions of Easy Work Papers. And more specifically, I’ll be going over some best practices for using some of the key functions and how we use them when we are preparing cost reports. These will be things like read only line groupings, facility maintenance, review notes, and much more.
Kelly: Yeah, that sounds like it’s going to be a great session as well. So do you have any insights on the education sessions that Andrew and Cody will be covering?
Christina: Sure, I actually do. So, as I mentioned, Andrew will be providing highlights of key areas to consider when I filling out Worksheet S-2. He will also be showing how those areas impact other areas of the Cost Report. It’s easy to roll S-2 over year after year, but it is important to understand how Worksheet S-2 drives other areas of the Cost Report, and that is something that Andrew is very good at explaining so you’ll be able to see that. Cody’s section is also filled with a ton of valuable insight into all of the newly required Exhibits. As we know, DSH, S-10 and Medicare Bad Debt are a few of the key areas to consider when filing a Cost Report. So, he’ll be focusing on those exhibits, and he’ll also be drawing attention to some other areas of consideration.
Kelly: I know those are going to be great sessions. Andrew and Cody always do a great job. So, I know you’re going to be covering the BESLER OMNIA section with Chris. Can you share anything more about what you’re going to cover with the BESLER OMNIA session?
Christina: Sure, yes. But not to give too much away, but again, we will be demonstrating the future of reimbursement technology by offering a glimpse into our BESLER OMNIA platform. Not only will be walking through the 2552-10 form with our cutting-edge user interface, I will also introduce our director of product management to share a roadmap of where we’re headed. We are so excited to share our progress and our vision for the future of reimbursement technology.
Kelly: Sounds like it’s going to be a really great event. I’m looking forward to it as well.
