Coding procedures changed with COVID-19. Here’s how BESLER is ensuring your facility receives the 20% add-on payment.
At the beginning of the public health emergency (PHE), the BESLER team developed rules to correctly identify COVID-19 cases when charts are imported into our proprietary software. BESLER’s platform has a “safety net” that identifies and places code U07.1 COVID-19, when coded as a secondary diagnosis, to be included in the top ten diagnosis.
In addition, the coding analysts identify any occurrences where the COVID-19 code was not listed in the top twenty codes reported on the Unified Billing form (UB). BESLER’s coding analysts also conduct a thorough review of the claim’s original UB and coding summaries to be sure that applicable codes are mirrored on the claims BESLER receives and reviews.
The combination of our technology screening and coding analyst reviews ensures all condition complication or comorbidity (CC) or a major complication or comorbidity (MCC) are captured accurately and reflected in the appropriate DRG for each encounter.
