Over the last several years, it has become more evident that DSH, S-10 and Bad Debts cannot be viewed in isolation. Together, they are tightly linked elements of uncompensated care reimbursement. The Medicare Cost Report integrates these elements in such a way that intimate knowledge of each of these areas is required to achieve optimal reimbursement and maintain compliance.
This report reviews each of these items in turn and explains the interdependence that determines whether a hospital will receive its appropriate share of uncompensated care reimbursement.
